[NEWS] Moving on, letting go: Why Jodi’s life tips are going viral

By | News/Updates | No Comments

Jodi Sta. Maria, whose story of forgiveness and moving on made headlines in recent years, has become a source of inspiration and motivation to her millions of followers on Twitter, with her daily life tips gaining wide traction on the microblogging site.

The 35-year-old actress, a Christian, has been sharing motivational lines on self-worth and confidence, and sagely advice on forgiveness and moving on — topics that evidently resonate with her fans.

Sta. Maria has a deep well to draw from, going by what’s known of her personal life. In 2011, she separated from Pampi Lacson after six years of marriage. They have one child together, Thirdy, now 12. The bitter breakup caused her to become an alcoholic, before having to turn to anti-anxiety drugs, she belatedly confirmed in 2016.

Years following the separation were also tumultuous for Sta. Maria, whose feud with the then-new partner of Lacson, actress Iwa Moto, courted controversy.

The two have since reconciled, with their respective families even spending overseas trips together. Their social media posts indicate Sta. Maria and Moto regularly bond with their respective children with Lacson. Sta. Maria’s current partner, actor-politician Jolo Revilla, also appears to be a staple in their family gatherings.

The positive strides in her life seem to reflect in her tweets, which urge her followers to similarly forgive, move on, find happiness, and have a firm grasp of what–or who–is important in life.

Another semester has passed, a new one is beginning and actress Jodi Sta. Maria is already excited to wear her uniform again.

Jodi revealed on Twitter that she just finished enrolling for the second semester. She is 1st year student majoring Psychology in Southville International School and College as it has been her dream to become a medical practitioner in the future.

“Officially enrolled for the 2nd Sem! Exciting times ahead,” she tweeted today.

The actress is gearing up for her new subjects like Social Psychology and Biochemistry, which netizens note will be difficult but nothing short of fun. She will continue to juggle her career and studies as the taping of her new teleserye has resumed. Plus, Jodi has an upcoming horror film with actor Marvin Augustin. It is directed by Jet Leyco and produced by Reality Entertainment.

Meanwhile, the actress had two weeks of vacation but was busy completing requirements for her grades. In fact, Jodi was actively seeking production staff – ‘sizzey’ as she fondly calls them – to hand out questionnaires while she was preparing for her hosting gig in the Kapamilya Awards 2017 last Tuesday.

“Before I embarked for my 2nd semester binigyan nila (professors) ako ng 2 weeks off from school but that doesn’t mean wala akong ginawa. Mayroon akong requirements na kinailangan tapusin para ma-lock-in ang grades ko for the first semester,” she said in an exclusive interview.

Jodi, who studies religiously, learned myriad knowledge from widely celebrated Psychologists like Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, and Sigmund Freud. But one of Jodi’s key learnings that rings truth in modern society was the value of understanding one another.

“The world will be a better place if there would be more understanding than judging,” she said.

In this day and age, kids are glued to their mobile devices to play various games just like Jodi Sta. Maria’s son, Thirdy. As a mom of a young boy, Jodi tries her best to catch up with trends as a way to connect with her son.

But no matter how much she tries, she couldn’t grasp the somewhat complicated mechanics of modern games. So instead, she plays something much simpler.

“Di ako marunong eh, may dinownload ako (na game) na natutunan kay Thirdy.” Jodi funnily admitted.

“Hindi siya komplikadong game kasi pagpinapanood ko yung mga games ng bata ngayon, sabi ko ‘hay di na to kaya ng brain cells ko.’” She went on to say that she used to play video games when she was younger.

But even though mobile games are such a big hit nowadays, the mother and son still find joy in traditional, well-loved games. In fact, they would spend some quality time in Puzzles, where anyone can play plethora of classic and modern board games and eat delicious food at the same time.

With 350 board games, Jodi and Thirdy easily passes the time with so much fun and excitement. But who wins in these games? Thirdy. The 12-year-old, who is a Basketball champion and an honor student, has a competitive spirit so he doesn’t let anyone even his mom win.

“Si Thirdy very competitive. Ayaw niyang natatalo siya. Gusto niya lagi siyang winner. Motto ata niya is life is a competition. Charing,” she quipped.

Jodi Sta. Maria Advocates Early Breast Cancer Detection

The month of October signals the nearing of Christmas, upcoming semester break, celebration of Halloween and also, the observance of Breast Cancer Awareness. In 2010 alone, there were 12, 262 Filipinas who got diagnosed with breast cancer. Futhermore, low-income countries, such as the Philippines, have low survival rate, painting a grim outlook for every affected men and women out there.

So this month of October, Avon tapped several celebrities, including actress Jodi Sta. Maria, to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

“Did you know 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in her lifetime?” asked by th Pink Minute campaign by Avon. However, early detection would significantly increase the survivality of every person affected by it and it only “takes a minute.”

“Yun yung pinaka importante, yung early detection kasi it can increase the chances of survival,” Jodi said in an exclusive interview with JSMPH.

Simply do a regular self-assestment by pressing firmly around the breast area and feel for any lumps. It’s easy and free. There should be no excuses.

More so, Jodi encourages everyone to educate themselves about breast cancer , after all, having knowledge to just about everything equips the wielder with a powerful tool.

“We should take it upon ourselves to educate ourselves about certain topics tulad nito (Breast Cancer).” Jodi added.

But fighting cancer shouldn’t be a lonely journey. While suffering from cancer, many affected by it experience myriad of emotions like sadness, fear, anger and more negative feelings. That’s why loved ones of cancer patients should give immense support and care in this very difficult time.

Just heed the advice of Jodi, whose mother is a cancer survivor. She referred to her mom as “The strongest person I know” after conquering breast and bone cancer.

“Make them know and feel that they are not alone,” Jodi advised. “Always give them encouragement and make them feel loved… Ipaalala natin sa kanila kung bakit kailangan pa lumaban. We can beat cancer.”

Jodi Sta Maria: “Thirdy is a Blessing”

By | Thirdy's Corner | No Comments

Jodi Sta. Maria may have a strict schedule but she’s never too busy for the “blessing” of her life, Thirdy. Apart from their baking and pottery activities, the mother and son also bond through storytelling.

In an exclusive interview, Jodi revealed that Thirdy loves to read books, which is commendable given his young age, and so, every night after their “kwentuhan,” they still have more special moment together.

“Mahilig kasi siya magpabasa ng libro. Yun yung nagiging bonding namin.”

Based on multiple studies, reading helps develop children’s vocabularies and broadens perspectives, among other things.

“Napaka-important din kasi ng book reading kasi somehow it stimulates your mind. Para yung creativity mo and imagination mo gumagana. So it’s very important sa cognitive development din ng bata.”

Even more admirable, Jodi reads to Thirdy with not just typical books but “The Action Bible.” Written by Doug Mauss and illustrated by Sergio Cariello, the Action Bible is Biblical comic that makes learning wisdom of God more enjoyable for children.

“As a mother, I know that the Lord has entrusted me with something very special. Thirdy is a blessing. I know that God want me to raise him up God-fearing, loving him, and know him as well.”

It should be noted that Jodi is hitting two birds with one stone because not only is she encouraging her son to read more, she is also instilling Thirdy with God’s teaching. Both are quite important- crucial even- for every child.

Nevertheless, don’t just simply force a book on your child. Jodi has a gentle reminder for every parent and that is to know what their children want to read.

“Kunwari yung bata ang gusto si Wonder Woman pero pinipilit mong ipabasa Little Pony,” she joked. “So I think it’s very important that we know what they like or what they want so they find every bit of story interesting.”

Jodi Sta. Maria Enjoys A Day in Toronto

By | #JODIstination | No Comments

Actress Jodi Sta. Maria was back in Canada last July 29 for ASAP Live in Toronto show in celebration of Canada’s 150th year.

Jodi, along with other Kapamilya stars, including Sam Milby, Kim Chiu, Piolo Pascual, Ogie Alcasid, Richard Yap, and more, is happily entertaining our Kapamilyas living there. But during the times she wasn’t not performing, of course, Jodi was busy with her fun adventure.

For that rainy day, Jodi and her friends visited CN Tower, which used to be the world’s tallest free-standing structure and world’s tallest tower. They wondered around the souvenir shop that was filled with cool items, perfect as “pasalubongs.”

But the fun really started when they climbed up in the top floor of CN Tower, which is also famous for its glass floor. Let’s just say that this is not an everyday walking tour experience but the actress braved the 342 m (1,122 ft.) height and even took a selfie!

“This is the most glorious day of my life,” the actress said in jest.

After the “death-defying” experience, Jodi felt a bit nauseous but they had to continue the tour in the rooftop. It wasn’t so bad as the view was nothing short of amazing. It oversees the big skyscrapers only Toronto can offer.

Their tour in the rooftop soon had to end but as they descend, their tour guide Abigail, informed them about amazing facts of CN Tower in 58 seconds.

Jodi and the other Kapamilya celebrities also spent some time at the Nathan Philips Square, where people go ice skating during winter season. While waiting for the production team, Jodi recalled her 14-hour flight from Hong Kong to Manila, where she watched a movie and a documentary about animals, and then slept for 11 hours. After landing in Toronto, Jodi couldn’t anymore due to jetlagged so she finished her reports for school. What a good student!

When she finished her story, Jodi couldn’t help herself but to comment about other tourists, which was beyond funny.

The actress also poked fun at Papa Chen, when he was trying to fix the umbrella.

“Kasalukuyan pong nagiistrugle si Chenes sa nabaliktad na payong. Kaya pa ba niya? San po kayo nakakita ng bumaliktad na payong na walang hangin. Only Chenes in Toronto.” Jodi joked.

There is never a dull day with Jodi!
