Jodi Sta. Maria may have a strict schedule but she’s never too busy for the “blessing” of her life, Thirdy. Apart from their baking and pottery activities, the mother and son also bond through storytelling.
In an exclusive interview, Jodi revealed that Thirdy loves to read books, which is commendable given his young age, and so, every night after their “kwentuhan,” they still have more special moment together.
“Mahilig kasi siya magpabasa ng libro. Yun yung nagiging bonding namin.”
Based on multiple studies, reading helps develop children’s vocabularies and broadens perspectives, among other things.
“Napaka-important din kasi ng book reading kasi somehow it stimulates your mind. Para yung creativity mo and imagination mo gumagana. So it’s very important sa cognitive development din ng bata.”
Even more admirable, Jodi reads to Thirdy with not just typical books but “The Action Bible.” Written by Doug Mauss and illustrated by Sergio Cariello, the Action Bible is Biblical comic that makes learning wisdom of God more enjoyable for children.
“As a mother, I know that the Lord has entrusted me with something very special. Thirdy is a blessing. I know that God want me to raise him up God-fearing, loving him, and know him as well.”
It should be noted that Jodi is hitting two birds with one stone because not only is she encouraging her son to read more, she is also instilling Thirdy with God’s teaching. Both are quite important- crucial even- for every child.
Nevertheless, don’t just simply force a book on your child. Jodi has a gentle reminder for every parent and that is to know what their children want to read.
“Kunwari yung bata ang gusto si Wonder Woman pero pinipilit mong ipabasa Little Pony,” she joked. “So I think it’s very important that we know what they like or what they want so they find every bit of story interesting.”

While most of us get nosebleed whenever we hear English from an articulate person, Jodi Sta. Maria experiences it with Math, which is actually much better because that subject surely induces tears and pain to countless students every year.
The actress asked for prayers and support so she can pass her Fundamentals of Statistics with flying colors so let’s all hope the best for her so she could get a perfect score.
“Finals ko na sa Fundamental of Stats so please, please pray for me na sanang mai-pass ko talaga with flying colors ang math kasi medyo numo-nosebleed ako,” she said.
And once Jodi finishes her study in the future, she hopes to share all of her valuable learnings to us someday.
@jodistamaria flying to France for a very special union of two of her dearest friends. #JodiStaMaria #B617
Actress Jodi Sta. Maria was back in Canada last July 29 for ASAP Live in Toronto show in celebration of Canada’s 150th year.
Jodi, along with other Kapamilya stars, including Sam Milby, Kim Chiu, Piolo Pascual, Ogie Alcasid, Richard Yap, and more, is happily entertaining our Kapamilyas living there. But during the times she wasn’t not performing, of course, Jodi was busy with her fun adventure.
For that rainy day, Jodi and her friends visited CN Tower, which used to be the world’s tallest free-standing structure and world’s tallest tower. They wondered around the souvenir shop that was filled with cool items, perfect as “pasalubongs.”
But the fun really started when they climbed up in the top floor of CN Tower, which is also famous for its glass floor. Let’s just say that this is not an everyday walking tour experience but the actress braved the 342 m (1,122 ft.) height and even took a selfie!
“This is the most glorious day of my life,” the actress said in jest.
After the “death-defying” experience, Jodi felt a bit nauseous but they had to continue the tour in the rooftop. It wasn’t so bad as the view was nothing short of amazing. It oversees the big skyscrapers only Toronto can offer.
Their tour in the rooftop soon had to end but as they descend, their tour guide Abigail, informed them about amazing facts of CN Tower in 58 seconds.
Jodi and the other Kapamilya celebrities also spent some time at the Nathan Philips Square, where people go ice skating during winter season. While waiting for the production team, Jodi recalled her 14-hour flight from Hong Kong to Manila, where she watched a movie and a documentary about animals, and then slept for 11 hours. After landing in Toronto, Jodi couldn’t anymore due to jetlagged so she finished her reports for school. What a good student!
When she finished her story, Jodi couldn’t help herself but to comment about other tourists, which was beyond funny.
The actress also poked fun at Papa Chen, when he was trying to fix the umbrella.
“Kasalukuyan pong nagiistrugle si Chenes sa nabaliktad na payong. Kaya pa ba niya? San po kayo nakakita ng bumaliktad na payong na walang hangin. Only Chenes in Toronto.” Jodi joked.
In this day and age, a modern woman is someone who exerts her best effort to be on top of her game. She can be a mother, a CEO, a humanitarian, an advocate, a student and a woman every man can’t resist, all at the same time.
A quick look in Jodi’s schedule and you’d be astounded to see how she manages to keep everything balanced. First things first, the multi-awarded actress is currently busy taping her new project in the Kapamilya network as she will soon be back on TV. Her last project on TV was the highly successful ‘Pangako Sa ‘Yo’ remake, where she even won a nomination from iEmmy, in 2015. This time though, she’ll be back with her ‘Be Careful With My Heart’ leading man, Richard Yap. So be ready because this highly anticipated TV series will be full of ‘kilig’ moments.
But even though she is busy with her career, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have time for herself. Jodi makes it a point to take care of her mind, body, and soul. In fact, she heavily encourages her fans and followers to do what she does.
As a lot may have known, Jodi is back in school and pursuing a Bachelor of Science major in Psychology, because ever since, she really wanted to have her own degree and become a medical professional. What’s even more admirable about Jodi is that she studies during her breaks in her taping and commercial shoots.
“It is important because it creates better opportunities in the future. It makes us strong mentally, intellectual, and socially by increasing our knowledge level. It makes us more confident too as individuals,” she said in a previous interview.
Jodi makes no excuses when it comes to keeping herself fit and healthy. The actress understands the importance and benefits of having a strong temple as she believes that “the best project you’ll ever work on is you.”
“Exercise to be fit, to be strong, to be healthy – that’s the goal. And if you are not where you want to be that’s enough motivation to keep you going.”

Strengthening her faith through prayer and by going to Church is a must for Jodi. She never misses out on nourishing her soul with God’s wisdom and love. The actress even shares bible verses and her interpretation of it that never fails to inspire her fans and followers.

With those mentioned, a lot may wonder, does Jodi even have time to have fun? Yes of course she does! Just recently, netizens were amazed when they saw her casually walking in the streets of Makati with her manager, Biboy Arboleda or mostly commonly known as Mother Bibs! The pair wondered from the Ayala tunnel, where they admired the colorful and exquisite murals on the wall, and then headed to Landmark but before that, some people recognized Jodi in her simple attire and asked for pictures, which she happily obliged to. When the two got inside Landmark, they, of course, dropped by Jollibee where Jodi happily recalled that her mom often took her there when she was young and that the Jollibee mascot has been standing there exactly where she remembered.
After that the mother and daughter wondered inside Greenbelt and shared words of wisdom with each other. Jodi even gave Mother Bibs a book entitled “Warrior of the Light” to inspire her.
They eventually concluded their fun mini-journey in the jungle of Makati but it was fun to know that a celebrity like Jodi and a powerful figure like Mother Bibs can live like a normal person.
And at the end of the day, the actress comes home to her son, Thirdy or Muy to his loved ones. Just like any other mom, Jodi makes sure she has a time for her son. They spend quality time together by baking, vacationing, playing games, and more. Most recently Jodi attended one of Thirdy’s basketball game to support her son and his team, DLSZ Boys 13 under, VS. Berkeley Baguio. Due to their training and skills, Thirdy and his team claimed victory, which isn’t the first time. In fact, their team has been experiencing a win streak and naturally, Jodi is a very proud mom.

For now, the actress is in Toronto with Richard Yap, along with other Kapamilya stars, for ASAP Live in Toronto show in celebration of Canada’s 150th year. The theme of the show is diversity and inclusiveness, add to that the talented performers like Jodi so, surely, it’s going to be fun and fabulous.
In celebration of Star Magic’s silver year, Jodi Sta. Maria together with a plethora of Star Magic artists flew to Canada and to United States of America last April 2017 to entertain our Kapamilya’s there.
Before heading to California’s Great America for their show, Jodi had a small detour in San Francisco and she took it as an opportunity to explore the bustling city. Oh, she was also on a quest to find a nail salon as her nails got damaged after her very fun skiing adventure in Vancouver, Canada.

At first, Jodi didn’t prevail as the two nail salons she went to were closed that day. At least she still got to see downtown San Francisco.
Also, the award-winning actress had some hugot lines that everyone should heed to.
“Sometimes in life, what happens, we walk and walk and only to find out that some doors are closed for us but it doesn’t matter because we can always go back to our destination and start again. While we are doing that, instead of complaining, why not just be thankful and enjoy the view and the journey.”
Luckily, Jodi did manage to find a nail salon, which is, coincidentally, called Lucky Nails. She was indeed lucky; plus, her nails looked fabulous!
Before actress Jodi Sta. Maria started going to school this Tuesday, she and her son Thirdy enjoyed the long weekend in the quaint province of Zambales.
“Life will always try to make us busy so what we should do is try to find time and fight for that time to do what we want to do, and also to spend time with ourselves and the people we love,” Jodi said.
The mother and son bonded in a 3-day pottery class with Pottery Expert Mia Casal in her Clay Ave. Pottery Studio in San Narciso, Zambales. That’s right, as peculiar as it sounds; the whole experience was actually pretty good and fun for Jodi and Thirdy.
“Fun siya kasi when you do things that you love with the people that you love sobrang nagiging special and memorable yung experience. And as a mother, nakikita ko na sobrang natututo si Thirdy and nagugustuhan niya to and na-eexpose siya dun sa maraming bagay hindi lang sa video games.”
Although Jodi and Thirdy did an amazing job making the pots, they have to wait for a month for it to dry. After that, they have to polish and finally heat the pot. Apart from making pots, Jodi and Thirdy also visited a small exhibit of teacher Mia’s work and her students.
Fun fact: Jodi actually first learned how to make pots back in 2015 so she would be able to fulfill her role as Amor de Jesus/Powers for the ABS-CBN hit drama Pangako Sa ‘Yo, wherein she received worldwide recognition, including an International Emmy nomination.
“Pinaka-unang pottery class ko with teacher Mia is back in 2015. Kailangan ko mag-aral for my role because si Amor Powers eto talaga ginagawa,” she said.
After having a wonderful time, Jodi recommends pottery making to everyone because of the life lessons you can learn while making one.
“If you’re looking for something new na pwedeng gawin na recreational and at the same time fun. I suggest you guys try pottery atsaka sobrang daming life lessons na matutunan kasi life metaphor siya.”
As for their next adventure, Jodi had this to say.
“Ang next activity namin ni Thirdy yun yung dapat ninyong abangan,” she laughed.
Actress and Super Mom Jodi Sta. Maria once again proved that there shouldn’t be any excuse for parents not to bond with their kids no matter how busy they are.Yesterday, Jodi and her son Thirdy had a quality mother-son time and they did it creatively as they bonded in a very peculiar place, the gym.
Before going to the gym, Thirdy first had his hair cut for his first day at school. He followed soon in Anytime Fitness in Alabang and had some fun with his mom and Coach Jomar. While seeing his mom get a massage, Thirdy had an interesting thought as he shared that if he ever becomes a masseur, he is going to charge a hefty price to his clients but for his mom, it will be free.
Thirdy also discovered a roller that is used to massage a person after a workout. And creative and playful as he will ever be, he played with the roller and used it as an imaginary sword.
Looks like Jodi and Thirdy have a new place to have some quality time. Where else will they take us next? Find out in the next Thirdy’s Corner blog!
