Who doesn’t feel insecure? Even the most successful and beautiful woman feel a slight insecurity. In fact, a staggering number of women in a lot countries have extremely low body confidence, according to a report. But the great thing is that insecurity can be lessened and confidence can be built. And Jodi Sta. Maria believes it all starts by recognizing that everyone is flawed but is unique and beautiful.

“You are unique, you are precious, you are beautiful, and you have to believe that,” Jodi said during the BDJ Women Summit. She suggested that instead of focusing too much on what is wrong, focus on what is good. Celebrating all that I am and all that I am not.

But what if a woman feels hesitation in pursuing her dreams? Should she stop? Jodi fully believes NO, she shouldn’t stop. “So just go on and push mo lang kung ano yung gusto mong gawin. Each and everytime iisipin mo yung iisipin ng iba, ikaw yung malilimitahan.” Women should never let anyone or anything stop them from achieving their dreams. Through action and faith, a dream can be reality.

Here are Jodi’s full answers.

5. What Advice would you give to a girl full of insecurities?

I believe lahat tayo meron niyan. Imposibleng na walang taong walang insecurity. Walang magsasabi na ‘I’m perfect’ because all of us are flawed. But you always have to remember that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. It’s just sometimes we tend to forget yung truth na ‘yon and we tend to focus too much on what’s wrong with us, what’s lacking, instead of focusing on our strengths and what we have. It’s impossible na lahat mali sayo. There is something good in you. You are unique, you are precious, you are beautiful, and you have to believe that. Kahit anong sabihin ng tao sayo but if you don’t believe that for yourself, then nothing is going to happen. Focus on your strengths, focus on what you have, think of the things that you are grateful for: You have air in your lungs, you have your family, you have friends that love you. Love yourself. Extend compassion to yourself the way you extend compassion to other people. Be kind to yourself. Do things that will make you feel good. Be kind to others and encourage other people. Don’t focus too much on what is missing. Focus on what you have. Stop comparing. Do not ever compare yourself to anyone. Each and anyone of us are made unique and you are unique. Always believe that in God’s eyes you are His beautiful daughter. Don’t ever forget that.

6. What Advice Would You Give To A Girl Who Has Hesitations In Pursuing Her Dreams?

At the end of the day, whether you do something exceptional or you failed, something will be said about you. So just go on and push mo lang kung ano yung gusto mong gawin. Each and every time iisipin mo yung iisipin ng iba, ikaw yung malilimitahan. So minus mo yun, go for what you believed in, for what you really want, and if you think what you’re gonna do is going to make a difference in this world we live in then all the more you should go for it.

Jodi reveals What Empowers her and What can you do to Empower Yourself

Women’s month is about to end but that doesn’t mean empowering women does. In this day and age, a lot of women are going out and reaching for their own dreams like never before. However, there are just times when women feel helpless because of a particular factor. But don’t worry because strong women are always there to help other women. Like Jodi Sta. Maria, who shared more valuable insights during the question and answer portion of the BDJ Women Summit.

A lot would probably want to know when does a successful woman like Jodi feels empowered, and her answer might surprise some people. “It was when I became a mother that I felt empowered.” This is very relatable to a lot of mothers, soon to be mom, and planning to be mom. Being a mother is difficult because of the huge responsibilities but it also gives a certain kind of strength and hope. She also said that her experiences – the good and bad – empower her.

Jodi also offered an advice to women who may feel intimidated while working in a male-dominant workplace. Even though it is 2017, there are still industries that only few women have entered. But Jodi strongly believes that women should hold their head up high and do their absolute best in work. “It so impossible to ignore when you’re really shining in what you are doing.”

Here are Jodi’s full answers to the questions.

1. As A Woman When Do You Feel Empowered?

It was when I became a mother that I felt empowered. Number one, physically, to be able to bear for nine months another life inside of you. Taking extra care of yourself, and then once the baby came out, now you have a complete responsibility over this life because it does not stop. You never stop being a mother. And also, I felt empowered when I have learned to embrace everything that I am and all that I am not. That I am not perfect, even the weaknesses in my life, my failures, my pain. It’s because this is also the same things that God used to empower other people: my experiences that I get to share to others.

2. How Would You Deal With A Situation Where You Are The Only Woman Working In A Team?

Even if na you feel na ikaw lang ang babae duon then feel proud na ‘Ha, ako lang ang babae dito.’ Ibig sabihin, I am at the same level as these men. Don’t let anyone look down on you. Be very good at what you do. This world will always look for perfection but there is no such thing as perfect but always strive for excellence in what you do. You always work hard, you always put effort and extra time. It so impossible to ignore when you’re really shining in what you are doing.

Jodi Gives Insights on How to be an Actress and How to Fulfill Your Own Dreams

By | #AskJodi | No Comments

Jodi Sta. Maria recently gave a powerful speech to a lot of women during the BDJ Women Summit in SM Aura. Backstage, Jodi said she was nervous but it did not show at all when she was making a strong and inspiring point about reaching one’s dreams through action and faith.

After the speeches, she sat down with her co-speakers, former Model Abbygale Arenas and Olympic Medalist Hidilyn Diaz for some questions. One of which is What Advice Would You Give To Those Who Want To Be An Actress? Jodi, an International Emmy Finalist, stressed that having passion for acting is the most important aspect because the path to success in showbiz takes hard work and time despite it seemingly easy and glamorous. She also added that having a good attitude is essential because “it will really take you far in life and even in your career.”

Another question she answered is What Advice Would You Give To A Girl Whose Parents Want To Pursue A Dream Different From Her? This topic is very relevant and resonates to a lot of young women who feel pressured by their parent’s will. Fortunately, Jodi had a great advice. She believes that parents mean well for their children and only want the best for them. But Jodi also believes that a person cannot live a life full of regret and so she said, “kung ano man yung nasa heart mo i-push mo yun, panghawakan mo yung dream na yon.”

Here is Jodi’s full answers to the questions.

1. What Advice Would You Give To Those Who Want To Be An Actress?

I think it’s very important that, first and foremost, it is within you this passion for performing and acting. It’s not an easy job, though it looks very glamorous and parang maraming perks and privileges ang mga actors and actresses pero you see, it takes a lot of hard work, time, and effort to get from point one to where you want to be someday. But if it is in your heart, it’s really your desire to perform and to act, then you have to act on it. Kung meron pa-audition sa ABS-CBN, why not? When I auditioned ni-hindi ko in-expect na matatanggap ako. Be open to possibilites. Attitude is very important. For me, attitude first before talent. Because talent can be honed, refined. Your skills can be taught. But it’s your attitude that will really take you far in life and even in your career.

2. What Advice Would You Give To A Girl Whose Parents Want To Pursue A Dream Different From Her Own?

We always have to honor our parents but you are your own person, you are unique, you are own individual, you have your own set of skills and talents. It’s so hard to be doing something that you do not love to do. Even if you are the only one believing na may future duon sa kung ano man yung nasa heart mo i-push mo yun, panghawakan mo yung dream na yon. I believe that your parents mean well. Wala namang magulang na maghahangad na hinde maganda para sa mga anak nila. I know that they want a bright future for you but you don’t want to live a life full what if’s and regrets.
